Perched atop the Mid-Atlantic Ridge just below the Arctic Circle lies a fabulously unique island of fire and ice. An island rich in both ancient traditions and beliefs and one that is constantly changing with every eruption from one of its 32 volcanic systems. Truly, in my opinion, this is the most magical island on Earth and until October of 2015, Iceland was Number 1 on my “Bucket List”. My hopes were high, but my expectations were low as my Mother and I only had a handful of days to fulfill several of my “Bucket List” experiences, most of which were conditional on the unpredictable Icelandic weather. See and photograph the Northern Lights, fly in a helicopter, walk on a glacier, photograph a stunningly beautiful sunrise, and stand between two tectonic plates were just a few of them. And yet, somehow, luck was on our side or, perhaps, the Huldufólk, or Icelandic Elves, took pity on us nature-loving gals by gracing us with the most remarkable adventure they could muster.
